Andrew Murray

On occasion a post will highlight a Christian who was of great faith and work. Let us be teachable and learn from these men and women of God and may they be an inspiration for our faith today. Be encouraged by our history and heritage!

The first man of God that is worthy of consideration is, Andrew Murray. He was a South African writer, teacher and pastor who lived May 9, 1828 - January 18, 1917. Murray considered missions to be the "chief end of the church". Amen to that, Brother, Murray!

He was an "M.K." (a missionary kid)... as his father was sent from Scotland to Africa as a missionary. So, it is not too surprising that Andrew also made ministry his life in South Africa. He is best known today for his devotional writings (many are classics), which place emphasis on a need for a deep, rich, prayer and personal devotional life.

See HERE for a list of his classics with a brief description.

A great little book which I (Jan) picked up recently from the Barr's book table (Walt was the C-HOP speaker this past weekend) is one I highly recommend. It is a 31-day adventure in prayer called, Helps to Intercession by Andrew Murray. I am praying for myself to become a woman of prayer and for FUMC to become a "House of Prayer" and this little book is a great way to begin!
Something to ponder...
Here is a quote from this book on page 7, "The work of intercession is the greatest work a Christian can do. Give yourself as a sacrifice to God for men, and the work will become your glory and your joy too." Doesn't that just inspire us to pray! YES! We can make a difference for the Kingdom of God by praying! Hallelujah!

Man to Man

Man to Man is a group of men who meet each Wednesday evening at 7:30 (8:00 during the summer months) at the church. They study God's word, share concerns, listen to each other, lift each other up in prayer, and build friendships. (It is FREE to all men of any age!) Bring a friend and come when you can!
