Let's face it, most of us could eat healthier and add more activity to our daily life. But where do we start? How do we get motivated? Perhaps looking at the facts... facing the facts... and asking God to help us is a start. Even small changes will add up to big changes over time and... with God's help we will see victories!
Do you know your BMI (body mass index)? Here is a free on-line BMI calculator ... just enter your height and weight and see where you are on the index. This is not a guilt trip but rather... a tool toward better health. Perhaps it is the wake up call needed to begin to make healthier choices.
Here is a fact that should stir us to action too, "During the past 20 years, there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States and rates remain high. More than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese." - source link
Let the change begin with small steps until they all add up to big strides of change! Here are a few of those "small step" tips that can lead to big change:
Nutrition Tip: Start replacing soda pop drinks with glasses of water.
Activity Tip: Change up your routine and go for a hike or bike ride with a friend at one of our amazing state parks. Here is a LINK to find some fun trails in PA.
*Check out the exercise campaign going on in our own back yard! (You will see a picture of our District Superintendent, Tom Strandburg!)
Here is more about the exercise programs in the Western PA United Methodist Church Conference that we can be a part of too! You may be seeing one come to FUMC very soon! ; )
*Consult your doctor before starting a new diet/exercise program.
This is an excellent idea! Being a Christian calls for self-discipline, and what better way to exhibit our self-discipline than to be healthy and fit!
